Renee Bevan Workshop - Push / Pull
Push / Pull is a workshop in two parts.
Push challenges participants to push their work (including research, ideas, process, experimentation and thinking) to its limits. Be it experimentation with scale, deepening and/or broadening research, challenging thinking or process, broadening experimentation etc… Through the expansion of thought, possibilities and options more facets are looked at and considered which challenge and clarify the many decisions involved in making. Pull is a process of clarification, editing, refinement and reduction, Work, research, process and concept is refined, pulled back in; reduced to the essence – to the essence of what is wanted to be said and to that which is important to the work. All unnecessary elements and noise is removed. |

Judy Darragh Masterclass - SLAPSTICK
SLAP STICK is a two-day workshop exploring the use of non-traditional materials in body adornment.
Using a wide range of found and upcycled materials we will experiment with combinations of unlikely materials and textures to make forms to adhere to the body. The methods of attachment will be explored and the placement around the body need not be the traditional sites for display. |
The idea is to question ideas of jewellery and what is wearable.
Bring a camera or phone to document experiments and outcomes. The masterclass is limited to 10 people. Cost: $300 Dates: Saturday 27 March and Sunday 28 March, 9:30-3:00 Venue: Refinery ArtSpace, 114 Hardy Street, Nelson |
Jessica Winchcombe Workshop - UNLOOSED
No previous experience required.
Equipment & materials are included as well as your first 7grams of silver. Additional silver and some fun not so traditional materials are available to purchase if you want to go for it and get creative. At the end of the day, we will lay our pieces out and have a chat about what we made. You will need to wear comfortable clothing and covers shoes. Bring glasses if you usually wear them and some ideas about what you might like to make. We will meet at the NMIT jewellery workshop. Over a cuppa, we will talk about different types of jewellery and look through books for inspiration. From there, I will teach you how to use the tools and equipment. You will be learning how to saw, file, solder and use texture stamps to create unique silver jewellery. |
First off, we do a quick trial project to get you feeling comfortable and then you can design a second piece of jewellery to concentrate on for the rest of the day. If you are making simple pieces like stacker rings or studs, you can expect to be able to make about 4-5 pieces. If you want to shape and design your metal to make a chunky piece, you will need to concentrate on one piece for the day.
At lunchtime, we can have a chat to see if you would like extra help or are happy with how you are progressing. It is a hands-on day, full of learning, laughing, and making something exceptional to take away. Cost: $150 Date: Saturday 3 April, 9:30-3:00 Venue: G121, G Block, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT), Nile Street, Nelson (entry is from Nile Street carpark) |
