Our special thaks to local artist Nerys Ngaruhe
who was commissioned by Nelson City Council to work with Arts Council Nelson on this project celebrating the arrival of the Matariki cluster of stars, the beginning of the Māori New Year, a meaningful time in the New Zealand cultural calendar. Her fabulous whetu (pictured right) have now appeared around Nelson... Residents of Whakatū participated in the creation of their own glow in the dark Matariki whetū within their neighbourhood, to remain visible on residential footpaths throughout Matariki. Thanks to all those who applied and those who participated, to Wahine Ma for their special Waiata Maori tautoko. We are sorry we could not bring this project to all of you. |
