Welcome to Nelson Sign Competition 2016

We congratulate local creative Andy Clover for his winning design (below) which replaced the old outdated sign.

Eighty-three designs were submitted for the creative challenge set late last year.  Andy Clover’s image scraped the win from a very close runner-up design created by Maggie Sweetman. (See below).   So close, in fact, the runner-up was originally thought to be the winner, before a closer look gave way to Clover taking line honours.

The new sign will be installed upon the existing framework in the next month.

ACN Community Arts Manager Lloyd Harwood says:
“The project was targeted at Nelson residents and provided a wide community engagement from creative folk from as old as seven years of age through to as young as eighty-two. The range of submitted imagery was a diverse as the age gap”

“It’s great that Nelson City Council provided the opportunity for the wider community to participate in this undertaking.

Nelson City Council Group Manager Community Services, Chris Ward, says he was pleased with the wide array of designed that were submitted.
“It’s great that we are able to revamp our welcome to Nelson sign with something fresh and inviting, while also showcasing a local artist. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to send in their submissions. It was fantastic to see the effort from so many people wishing to make a warm welcome sign for locals and visitors.”
