Good as Gold

Cross Country Weavers 50th Anniversary exhibition

A celebration of our living library of over 2,000 unique woven samples created and maintained by weavers across the length and breadth of Aotearoa over the past 50 years.
The Cross Country Weavers Special Interest Group and Library was started in 1974 as a means for Creative Fibre* members to exchange handweaving ideas and techniques via samples, and in the process has created a significant archive that is available for reference to contemporary Creative Fibre members.

The exhibition will present a selection of samples from the Cross Country Weavers Library, showing the scope of our work across the last five decades through a process that has connected over 200 weavers and transcended major social changes. The communications and information accessibility may be different but the tactile joy of real fabric remains as relevant today as in 1974.
