Te Tai-o-Aorere Arts Development Trust is seeking committed individuals to serve as trustees to help govern this newly established charitable trust dedicated to stimulating and strengthening the artistic and cultural life of Whakatū and Te Tai-o-Aorere region.

Te Tai-o-Aorere Arts Development Trust
The Te Tai-o-Aorere Arts Development Trust has been established by Arts Council Nelson Incorporated to transition the assets, operation, and core charitable purposes of the Society, alongside an expanded remit envisioned in He Tātai Whetū (Nelson City Council's community arts and creativity strategy). The Trust will operate as an independent arts development organisation that continues the legacy of the Nelson Provincial Arts Council and Arts Council Nelson while implementing a broader vision for the future.
Our Purpose
Our Trust is dedicated to stimulating and strengthening the artistic and cultural life of the Te Tai-o-Aorere region through:
- Honouring and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Supporting participation in the arts and increasing accessibility
- Fostering identity through creative expression
- Developing arts infrastructure and strategic development
- Creating inclusive and welcoming spaces for collaboration
- Supporting the creative economy with innovative funding models
What We're Looking For
We are seeking a diverse group of trustees who collectively represent the community we serve. Ideal candidates will:
- Be permanent residents of Aotearoa New Zealand
- Have a genuine connection to the Te Tai-o-Aorere creative community
- Demonstrate a commitment to the region and its artistic development
- Be familiar with or willing to gain an appreciation of arts development, community arts, and Te Ao Māori
- Governance experience, strategic leadership, and evaluation skills
- Financial and business competency, legal compliance, risk management experience
- Human resource, recruitment and policy development skills
- Expertise, connections and knowledge in the arts and cultural sector
- Community engagement & development and cultural transformation experience
- Advocacy and promotion experience
- Fundraising, sponsorship and stakeholder relations
- Understanding of local body government, Tangata whenua and local iwi
- Education and youth
- Environment and sustainability experience
Commitment Required
- Trustees will serve for a minimum term of three (3) years
- The Board meets a minimum of four (4) times per year
- Additional time may be required for committee work and special projects
- This is a governance role focusing on strategic direction and oversight
