Calling all bright creative sparks – to get Involved! Arts Council Nelson [ACN] and Uniquely Nelson [UN] are once again joining forces to match artists and retailers to create ‘Illuminate’ a visual treat of window sited light based art installations in Nelson’s CBD “Illuminate” will be promoted by UN under the ‘Feast for the Senses’ marketing umbrella and will produce a brochure featuring and promoting details of participating artists and retailer’s windows. Feast for the Senses is a celebration of Nelson City’s diverse culinary offerings, but it is also an umbrella for other cultural activities such as art, music and performance. UN will Market the campaign to ensure extensive exposure. The dates for this promotion are: Wednesday 12th July to Wednesday 16th August ACN’s role is to liaise with artists whom we hope are keen to take this opportunity to exhibit existing or new light works in the CBD. The artist’s initial role is to register their interest so that ACN can allocate a retailer to your needs. Artists will then be asked to visit and liaise with their ‘matched’ retailer to ensure what they are proposing to install is workable and that both parties are happy, discuss any safety concerns and agree to timeframes for installation and takedown that suit both parties. We currently have 30 retailers on board with a variety of window sizes available, so installations of all sizes are welcomed and there is opportunity for artists to have several installations should they choose. Installations would need to be in place by the start date: 12th July and kept on display until 16th August during which of course retailers will ensure the lighting is left on at night! There are no prizes or winners, just the opportunity to be part of creating a series of illuminated windows that our community and visitors can enjoy on winter nights. Sadly, we have no budget to help with the installations, but hope that this will not deter you from participating. If you would like to participate in this initiative please register your interest, by noon on Friday 26th May at the latest, to Lloyd or Heidi at ACN Office at the Refinery or email email@example.com with the following information:
Name: Contact email Daytime phone contact #: Basic Description of the intended installation; including approximate size and/or other information you feel we should know about to help us get you the best possible match. Number of installations proposed: We will advise on your match asap after the cut off time. Artists would then meet with their business contact to jointly agree on their proposals and confirm this with ACN by Friday 2nd June in order to meet UN’s print publication deadline. We look forward to hearing from you at your very earliest convenience and hopefully to seeing your work brightening up the CBD soon. Kind regards, Lloyd & Heidi.
