Our call for proposals for the season July 2017 to June 2018 is now closed.
The Refinery ArtSpace is managed by Arts Council Nelson whose mission is -
To promote, initiate and support projects and activities that stimulate and strengthen the artistic and cultural life
of our communities.
Proposals are welcome from:
- Individuals and groups from all creative fields locally and nationally for exhibitions/events and performances;
- Community arts and cultural groups;
- New and emerging artists including secondary/tertiary students and recent graduates;
- Proposals from other national galleries with a similar community focus;
- Curatorial practitioners and curatorial programmes, locally and nationally;

The Refinery ArtSpace Committee will meet in April 2017 to determine the 2017/2018 exhibition/events calendar
and applicants will be notified on the outcome of their proposal by 5 May, 2017.
Please note that the Refinery ArtSpace is expecting to undergo some building work in due time.
Successful applicants will be notified, in case once dates for such work is confirmed and might have an impact on dates.
We will try to make such information available as soon as we can to secure a smooth running for exhibitors.

What the Refinery ArtSpace Offers..
Exhibition spaces: Large and small gallery spaces, plus on-going opportunities to display in the foyer area.
Sculpture garden: For siting outdoor 3D works + potential for small functions usage during warmer months.
Performance Spaces: Both for small and medium-large events.
(Equipment available: 4 theatre lights with controller + p/a, audio system)
Workshop / Meeting Space: Ideal area for up to 8 students depending on activity.
Wide variety of booking options to suit tutors and group needs.
Artists Studios: We currently have five resident visual artists working from rented studio spaces at the Refinery.
Library / Chill out area: Couches, books and arts information at your leisure...
Personnel: The facility is constantly manned either by staff and/or our great team of multi-cultural volunteers.
Curatorial and technical assistance available as required.
Miscellaneous: Wheelchair access. Ample parking space (both at the front and rear of the building). EFT POS facilities.
