Uxbridge Creative Centre is proud to announce the Estuary Artworks Competition will be running again in 2012, offering a total of $9,000 in prize money. This exhibition has been supported by Howick Local Board, Auckland Council.

This significant art competition, now into its sixth year, is open to all residents of New Zealand. An exhibition of the finalist works will be on display at Uxbridge Creative Centre from 16 Februrary until 8 March 2012. Entries for the exhibition will be selected by the Curator for judging by a panel. The winning artwork will be announced at the exhibition opening Thursday 16 February 2012, 6.30pm. Open Call – Art on Life New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts

Closing date: Tuesday, 28 February 2012

Opening 9 March 2012 The NZ Academy of Fine Arts will present Art on Life, an exhibition dedicated to the exploration of the many facets of human experience and the way art captures and explores our lives. It will involve a number of guest artists, such as James Robinson and Michael Crawford, along with selected Academy artists.

Does your work take a - perhaps sidelong - look at the idiosyncrasies of human nature? Does it present or explore metaphors we use to represent our lived experience? Is it concerned with the still moments and objects that define us, or the complexity of our relationships and our ‘place’ in our rural environment and landscapes? If so, your work could be a fitting part of this exhibition.

Entry is open to everyone doing interesting and quality work. All work is subject to selection. All works will be for sale.

If you would like to discuss your possible participation in this exhibition, please call Jodie Dalgleish on (+64 4) 499 8807.

Producer Pilot programme

Creative New Zealand is calling for proposals from dance and theatre producers interested in being part of a producers’ pilot programme.  This programme will provide opportunities for dance and theatre producers to develop their skills and practice, help develop capabilities to deliver work and increase and diversify audiences.

Producers can request funding for a stipend and/or to offset some administrative and management costs they incur, for example office rent, telecommunications and some travel when representing artists.

The pilot will run from July 2012 to June 2014, during which time we expect to support at least two producers offering services to identified dance and/or theatre artists and organisations.

Closing date:  Friday, 2 March 2012

Producers thinking of submitting a proposal are strongly urged to discuss their application with their Creative New Zealand adviser prior to preparing an application.

CAFKA Call for Submissions (Canada)

The Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener and Area (CAFKA) is an artist-run organization that produces an international biennial exhibition of contemporary art projects in the public spaces of the Waterloo Region. Through the exhibition, lectures, tours and related special events, CAFKA develops opportunities to learn about contemporary art and participate in its making – creating memorable experiences and contributing to the creation of an engaging, animated and stimulating urban environment.

CAFKA wants to hear what artists are thinking about and what drives their practice. The theme of the Spring 2013 biennial exhibition will therefore be determined by the topics and content identified within the proposals. Further, CAFKA seeks artists who are able to respond to the specific features of the local urban landscape and culture as sites of critique and reflection from a global perspective.

CAFKA is inviting proposals for new or existing works that engage the public and a diverse audience. Works in all media will be considered including sculpture, performance, video, audio, installation, photography, painting, drawing, and digital media. Artist Fees paid for Visual and Media Art Projects: $2,000 CAD, plus travel expenses. Wherever possible CAFKA will work with artists to source the donation of materials to help offset production costs. Video and one-time performance fees are paid in accordance with CARFAC (Canadian Artists’ Representation/le Front des Artistes Canadiens). For more information and submission guidelines, please visit www.cafka.org/submissions.

NZSA Mentor Programme - Call For Applications New Zealand Society of Authors

This highly successful programme is available only to members of the NZSA  and offers new authors the opportunity to spend 20 hours working alongside some of New Zealand’s best-known authors.

The programme is sponsored by Creative New Zealand and designed to give beginning or emerging writers who demonstrate potential and commitment the opportunity to work closely with an experienced writer as their mentor in order to hone their writing skills, and in the process develop a piece of work from the early stages to a polished manuscript with potential for publication.

There are 15 full mentorships available in the 2012 programme. We are also offering an additional two half mentorships (each of 10 hours) available for projects – such as a picture book text, or a poetry collection – that are deemed not to require a full mentorship. If it is considered that there are no applications suitable for the half mentorships, then one additional full mentorship will be offered instead.

Applicants are expected to have some creative writing experience (may have published stories or non-fiction articles for instance) or attended creative writing courses so they are aware of the basics of writing. The application requires a synopsis of the proposed project plus a sample of the work-in-progress.

There is an application fee of $20 to cover administration costs. Applications are assessed by a panel of three experienced writers skilled in manuscript assessment.

If you are serious about your writing career and need feedback and coaching, this programme is for you.

Please note, the 2012 deadline for applications is different to previous years.

Call for Submissions and Entries to Project 100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project

Closing date: Monday, 11 November 2013

My project is called ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project’, together with the ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Prize’.

The main outcome will be a publication of new poems from Australian and New Zealand poets matched with poems written before Remembrance Day 2011 and dating back to the mid 1800s.

The new poems will, I hope, reflect the diversity of views that surround the many military commemorations and anniversaries occurring today.

The older poems will illustrate changes that have occurred over time (to whom ‘Freedom’ applied at the turn of the 19th century was different from today) as well as how Australians and New Zealanders have viewed military actions and, at times, those involved such as the different treatment of Aboriginal and Maori soldiers to the changing role of women.

These poems will be complimented by photographs of war memorials from ‘country’ Australia and New Zealand.

Reel Authors International Screenplay Contest

Closing date: Wednesday, 31 October 2012

Reel Authors was set up by freelance film industry workers to encourage NEW writing talent and to BANISH genre subjectivity in screenplay contests, therefore...

Reel Authors is the FIRST contest to have a 'script to reader genre match' guarantee.

We currently offer two biannual screenplay contests:

*International Break Out Screenplay Contest http://reelauthors.com/ -For all genres, both TV and Film scripts are accepted

*Pulsar Sci-Fi Screenplay Contest: http://www.scifiscreenplaycontest.com/index.php -Exclusively for Sci-Fi Film and TV scripts

Soon, our exclusive Action genre contest will be up and running too. From experience we know that Drama and Comedy scripts currently rule the top placings of most contests (due to storyline and character aspects scripts are heavily judged upon), so we wanted to set up exclusive genre contests to ensure new talent of all genres have the chance of shining through to get the recognition they deserve.

Now more about our 'script to reader genre match' guarantee...

At Reel Authors, we've all been in the industry for so long and wonder how new talent can ever be discovered if screenplay contests continue to be so subjective?! So we made sure that we have different readers for each genre (meaning readers only read scripts for genres they truly love!), (as well as having an even ratio of male and female readers), that way, contestants can be 100% sure their script will be read by someone who appreciates that genre (for eg. a Western script will be given to someone who loves Westerns, not someone who loves RomComs and despises cowboys).

Therefore screenplays will be judged fairly on talent and industry related content (Reel Authors offers a 100 point industry orientated scorecard complete with an analysis of approx. 400-600 words) so writers know exactly where they stand and have full assurance that the readers have read their scripts to its entirety. (I'm sure a lot of you would have experienced doubt as to whether a reader actually read your script or just skim-read the first 20 pages!)

Our FAQ page is here: http://reelauthors.com/FAQ.php all our standard regulations are consistent throughout all our contests and our contests run every 6 months so you will never have to play the waiting game for a year for results. If you opt for feedback/analysis and scorecard, you will receive them within a month (30 days).

Contest entry is $25.

Contest entry with analysis and scorecard is $45.

We're also newly on Facebook! 'Like' our Pulsar Sci-Fi Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/pulsarscifiscreenplaycontest or our Reel Authors Screenplay Contests Facebook page and you'll automatically go in the draw to win FREE CONTEST ENTRY AND ANALYSIS/SCORECARD!
